If you’ve ever iterated on a prompt over and over, hoping for better performance from ChatGPT or any LLM, you’re not alone.
I recently used the Prompt Optimizer in the OpenAI Cookbook/Playground, and the results were impressive. Not just in output quality, but in how I think about prompting.
Using the optimizer, I simply:
- Pasted in the original prompt
- Hit “Optimize” (no manual tweaks at first)
- Reviewed the refined version
- Saved it as a Prompt Object for version control and reuse
- After Optimization refined prompt with improvements
Create a blog header image that supports the concept of a blog post titled how to prompt like a pro with chatgpt.
Prompt Optimizer results
Begin with a concise checklist (3-7 bullets) of the steps required to create an engaging and visually appealing featured image for the blog post titled ‘How to Prompt Like a Pro with ChatGPT.’ The image should capture attention, encourage readers to engage with the post, and visually represent the concept of writing effective prompts for ChatGPT. After producing the image concept, briefly validate whether its elements align with the blog’s title and intended engagement goals before finalizing.
The Results
Cleaner. Clearer. Better. It improved reliability, reduced memory usage, and made the prompt feel far more intentional. As you can see the prompt also had ChatGPT think deeper and build a criteria checklist, then create the image, and finally check to see if the image created fulfilled the criteria.
The best part? I didn’t just get a better prompt; I learned how to write better ones.
